The European Public Prosecutor's Office, headed by Laura Kövesi, starts operating as of today, June 1. European citizens will be able to send signals to the institution in their own language. The Bulgarian representative in the new institution is Teodora Georgieva. Bulgaria nominated 10 delegated prosecutors, 6 of whom were rejected by Chief European Prosecutor Laura Kövesi, and four were approved.
Here is what Laura Kövesi said about the proposals from Bulgaria, in a special interview for BNT:
"We have received ten proposals from Bulgaria to appoint ten delegated prosecutors from your country. I understood that the procedure in the country was transparent, we do not comment on it. But based on internal rules, we have our own internal procedures and we need to check the experience of the candidates and whether they meet the other criteria. We did this and unfortunately some of the Bulgarian candidates were rejected. Let me give you just one example - we had candidates who have no experience as prosecutors, and this is the first condition of the European Public Prosecutor's Office - to have a long experience in investigating financial crimes. Now we expect to receive new proposals from Bulgaria to fill all 10 posts of European Delegated Prosecutor we have for Bulgaria.
