The Bulgarian Red Cross has launched a campaign to raise material donations to help the victims in Türkiye and Syria after the devastating earthquake.
In one day, more than 180,000 BGN were collected and more than 75 000 e-mails were sent to the campaign for the financial aid for Türkiye and Syria, Yassen Slivenski, Director of the Disaster Management Directorate at the Bulgarian Red Cross, told BNT on February 8.
The campaign for material donations is collecting new warm clothes for children, women and men, new bed linen, blankets and hygiene materials for personal use. The donations are collected in the regional councils of the Bulgarian Red Cross around the country, in Sofia it is the Ninth Fire-Fighting Department in the district "Lyulin" 10.
Hours after the devastating earthquake, a team from the mountain rescue service of the Bulgarian Red Cross took part in the rescue operations. Currently, a search and rescue team of 12 people with 5 dogs from the Mountain Rescue Service of the Bulgarian Red Cross are on the ground in Türkiye searching for survivors.
"It is very difficult, we are keeping in touch with colleagues. They tell us that the picture is distressing, there are completely destroyed buildings and it is very unlikely to find survivors under them. Teams are arriving from all over the world, from the side of the Bulgarian Red Cross we are ready to send additional teams if necessary, we have trained volunteers who are ready to go," said Yassen Slivenski.
