NIS: At this stage there are no suspects for the assassination attempt on Chief Prosecutor, international experts will help in the investigation

The work on site after the attempted assassination of Prosecutor General Ivan Geshev is heading towards completion. From now on, work will be carried out with the operational services of the Ministry of Interior, security services and all international partner services, investigator Marian Marinov said on May 2 during an investigative experiment after the assassination attempt on the Prosecutor General.

Marinov said that at this stage he could not say that there were any suspects. The investigation will be objective, comprehensive and all possible versions will be examined.

Marinov did not comment on the theory that there could be international involvement. "It's early to talk about this topic," he said.

A team of experts is examining every inch of the blast site - all the asphalt around it, the vegetation and the soil. It was searched for traces and physical evidence of an explosive. An expert examination has been ordered which will show the type of explosive, the quantity, the TNT equivalent and the origin - the country from which it was purchased, Marinov added. If necessary, specialists from other countries will also be used.

Different materials are being examined - plastic particles, wood particles, metal particles in the shape of balls. There are signs of damage on the trees around.

Marinov described as a "hypothesis" the words of Gen. Atanasov that the case was a staged one and aimed at blocking reforms in the Prosecutor's office.

Prosecutor General's spokesperson, Siyka Mileva, said that international experts would most likely be brought in on the case to help prepare the expert reports and in the course of the investigation.
