The Prosecutors’ College of the Supreme Judicial Council (SJC) will propose that prosecutor Magdalena Lazarova-Prodanova serve as acting Prosecutor General after the term of the current acting Prosecutor General, Vanya Stefanova, expires on 22 October. The college made the decision at its meeting today, October 7.
If Lazarova agrees, the proposal will be put to a vote by the SJC Plenum. She is currently Deputy Prosecutor General and is next in seniority, which is why the post is being offered to her.
The current acting Prosecutor General is Vanya Stefanova. She took office as acting Prosecutor General in April after Borislav Sarafov resigned. Under the Judicial System Act, the positions of acting president of the Supreme Administrative Court, acting president of the Supreme Court of Cassation and acting Prosecutor General may be held by one person for a maximum of six months.
