GERB-UDF leader Boyko Borissov: Vice President Iotova should apologise or the President should withdraw his decree for first sitting of 51st Parliament

It is clear to everyone that new elections will be held, GERB leader Boyko Borissov said. After Vice President Iliana Iotova said yesterday that the parliament was illegitimate, Borissov today sharply criticised the presidential institution. He expects either Yotova to apologise or the President to withdraw the decree convening the 51st National Assembly on Monday. GERB will not back down from having the Speaker of Parliament from their party, which won the October 27 elections.

Criticism of the presidency with expectation of an apology - Boyko Borissov addressed the head of state in absentia.

"I don't even know, since the presidential institution said that the elections were illegitimate, will they come to the hall on Monday to legitimize what is illegal or illegitimate? It only appears that the presidential election is fair and transparent. Why, if they are illegitimate, it is within his powers to refer the election to the Constitutional Court for the election to be annulled. What are these games with partial annulment… of polling stations etc? And I expect Vice President Iotova to either apologize or the President to withdraw the decree for Monday," GERB-UDF Chairman Boyko Borissov said.

According to Borisov, Iotova's statement would call into question a possible cabinet.

"Even if we form such a government when it has already been announced by one institution that the most important institution in the state - the Parliament is illegitimate - it automatically means a power struggle," Boyko Borissov said.

Borissov has other expectations.

"And I am really waiting for the presidential party. 4 years of caretaker governments dominated by Radev. When did we dare to speak against him? Never," the GERB leader said.

The GERB leader made a forecast for elections after the elections.

"It is clear to everyone that we will go to new elections. 15 days after the elections there is no question of a government at all," Borissov said.

The GERB leader identified his biggest opponents in elections as "MRF-New Beginnings", the ARF and "Vazrazhdane", not We Continue the Change – Democratic Bulgaria.
