The Bulgarian industry can be reorganized in just a few days and the relevant enterprises can produce what is needed, Bulgaria’s Prime Minister Boyko Borissov said on Marrch 12 during his visit to the Mak plant in Gabrovo, which already produces protective clothing for medical personnel in the country.

During the visit, Prime Minister Borissov was thoroughly familiarised with the entire production process - weaving, dyeing, laminating. "The 40,000m fabric is now ready. We will produce between 12,000 and 14,000 protective overalls," Georgi Bizhev, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the plant, explained to the Prime Minister.

The management of the plant met with the PM on March 8, along with representatives of other Bulgarian companies, which will be able to make about 1500 protective overalls.

PM said that the reorganisation of these plants was necessitated because the deliveries from EU member states had stopped at some point.

"We had to respond urgently to the needs of our doctors, nurses and healthcare assistants. We are preparing for a longer time for such situation and I wanted the Bulgarians to see the technology and the production on the spot," the PM added.

Borissov also expressed gratitude to the medical staff in Gabrovo, which was one of the cities where 2 of the first cases of Covid-19 were confirmed.

The Prime Minister stressed that together with the Minister of Health and the Minister of Finance they continue to provide the necessary tools for incentives to all employees working to deal with the disease.

He urged the public not to panic, but to use all available resources of the Bulgarian industry to obtain the necessary resources and materials for the work of the medical teams.

The Prime Minister told the media that there were several thousand respiratory devices in the country and that the new ambulances were equipped with such devices. He explained that the country has paid for and waiting for important respiratory equipment, but 20 such devices will be delivered at the end of May because of the huge demand.
