Three people have been charged in relation to the brutal assault on the Bulgarian investigative journalist Slavi Angelov, Chief Prosecutor Ivan Geshev said at a briefing on April 24. The charges against them include involvement in a crime group and possession of illegal narcotic substances.
He did not disclose the identities of the accused, but confirmed that they were involved in sports and are part of football supporters club.
He added that the three are those who carried out the physical assault on Angelov. They were detained in a special operation on April 23.
He stressed that despite the coronavirus state of emergency, the Ministry of Interior, together with the supervising prosecutors have worked actively within "extremely reasonable time". Evidence has been collected, but it is not insufficient and the work continues.
The Chief Secretary of the Ministry of the Interior, Ivan Ivanov, thanked the Ministry of Interior, the National Police, the Prosecutor's Office and the teams that worked day and night and said he was pleased the operation was successful.
He said the work will continue to find the those who commissioned the assault.
