Judges call on current Supreme Judicial Council not to elect the new Prosecutor General and the new head of Supreme Administrative Court

The Bulgarian Judges Association (BJA) on October 16 called on the current composition of the Supreme Judicial Council, the term of which has expired, not to elect the new Prosecutor General and the Head of the Supreme Administrative Court.

In its opinion, the Bulgarian Judges Association pointed out that the meaning of the different duration of the terms of office of the Supreme Judicial Council - 5 years - and of the presidents of the supreme courts and the Prosecutor General - 7 years - also determines the inadmissibility of situations in which the same composition of the Supreme Judicial Council elects more than once in succession one of the so-called "three big ones" in the judiciary.

The BJA considers that the expired term of office of the current SJC requires its members to refrain from taking decisions that are constitutionally bound by the established terms of office of the relevant bodies.
