Bulgaria seeks to further deepen its economic and investment partnership with Canada. The increase in bilateral trade, despite the effects of the pandemic, is a positive sign in this direction, Bulgaria’s head of state Rumen Radev at a meeting with the Ambassador of Canada, Annick Goulet, on June 30.
In 2021, Bulgaria and Canada celebrate 55 years since the establishment of bilateral diplomatic relations and the meeting expressed the mutual willingness of the two countries for the comprehensive development of friendly dialogue and mutually beneficial cooperation in various areas.
Bulgaria's ambitions are to encourage investors in areas of high added value, especially in the field of information technology and digitalization, for which there are already successful examples in bilateral cooperation with Canada, the President said.
Rumen Radev added that Bulgaria is increasingly perceived as the "capital" of information technology in Southeast Europe, as well as in the field of start-ups.

The accession of our country to the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development will become an additional incentive to promote economic exchange with Canada and Bulgaria expects to start accession talks soon, the President added.
The actions taken to establish the rule of law in Bulgaria, creating a predictable business environment and achieving sustainability in these processes were also among the topics of the meeting.
