Two children from the North Bulgarian town of Rousse earned their chance to perform on the concert stage at Carnegie Hall in New York City after becoming winners of the American Protégé International Piano and String Competition 2014.
The 13 year old Nikolay Dimitrov will perform at the famed venue on 29th of November to receive two awards - for piano duo and for solo performance.
The talented musician has played the piano since he was 5.
He says that his parents decided to surprise him and submitted recordings of his performances to the American Protégé Competition. The selected recordings were of Nikolay playing “Impromptu” by Chopin and “Arabesque” by Claude Debussy.
Nikolay Dimitrov says it is a great challenge to perform at such prestigious stage.
In addition to classical music, the 13 year old pianist loves jazz and together with classmates made a formation.
Recently, Nikolay Dimitrov surprised mall shoppers in Greece with his piano performances. He says he never thought of changing to another musical instrument.
For his piano teacher, Daniela Kyurkchiiska, the trip to New York will not be the first one as she travelled there before with another of her students who won a similar competition and performed at Carnegie Hall.
The visit of the talented musicians in New York will coincide with the Thanksgiving Day so they hope they will have the opportunity to perform a concert as a treat to the Bulgarian community.
