Sofia is now one of the 8 districts in the Covid-19 dark red zone, meaning an infection rate of 500 or more per 100,000 people. The schools and kindergartens in the capital will not be closed and students continue with in-person attendance clases. However, part of the students in Sofia district will switch to distance learning. The measures in Vidin, Sliven, and Pernik are tightened.

In Sliven district, students will rotate between in-person classes and remote learning until the end of the month. Children from 1st to 4th grade will stay in the classrooms.

“Currently the students from 7th grade are attending school for two weeks and the week after will change to distance learning. Then the students from 5th and 6th grades will start in-person classes. We have infected teachers,” Margarita Ivanova, the head of Primary School “Dimitar Petrov” in Sliven, said.

Kindergartens in the district will stay open with strict observance of the measures. All public and private mass events are prohibited, pensioners' clubs are temporarily closed.

“I suppose this will lead to a plateau or a decrease in morbidity in the district” dr. Daniela Kaleva from the Regional Health Inspectorate in Sliven added.

Visiting patients in hospitals and care institutions are not permitted. The farmer‘s market in Sliven will operate in accordance with the anti-epidemic measures. One-way foot flow is established.

“Our employeees are staying at the entrance and exit and every client visiting the market is told to put on a mask and follow the one way system, but as we can see many do not comply.” Ivelina Gocheva from Municipal Markets in Sliven added.

"I`ve had Covid and am immune, I don`t see why I should wear a mask.” а vendor commented.

In Vidin district, stricter anti-epidemic measures are also in effect. Students switch between the classroom and remote learning Fitness centers do not work, while cinemas and theatres operate at 30% seating capacity. Peple are required to follow a one-way system through the markets and both vendors and visitors are obliged to wear masks.

Sofia is now also in the dark red zone.

"I will not respond to Covid-related questions today. There is nothing that I could tell you today, that is different from what was siad at our last meeting," caretaker Health Minister, dr. Stoycho Katsarov, said.

The Ministry of Health did not respond to the questions, sent by our team.

We found out unofficially that the director of the Regional Health Inspectorate asked for tightening of the measures in a meeting of the Regional Headquarters, but his proposals are yet to be discussed. However, the district management discussed the infection rate in the schools and kindergartens.

The decision was that student rotation is not expected for the time being.

“The district management do not propose new measures. The control, which is one of the main activities during the last weeks, is being tightened.” deputy mayor of Sofia Municipality, Doncho Barbalov, said.

At the moment approximately 1,200 people with Covid-19 are hospitalised in the capital. Additional beds will probably be provided. The municipality warned that there will be more inspections to ensure complaince wth the anti-epidemic measures.
