There will be job requirements for mastering digital skills only by the year of 2020, while there are approximately 170 million people in Europe nowadays, who don’t acquire the basic knowledge. This was commented on in Varna by the European Commissioner for Digital Economy and Society, Maria Gabriel.
The European Commission proposes to establish a network of centers for extraordinary achievements and Bulgaria is expected to be one of the first countries having such center. Over 17 000 municipalities across the EU have already signed up to fund free public wireless internet projects. Bulgaria is one of the first countries with over 200 candidates who will soon receive an answer if they are approved. IT specialists are an important part of this digital future, said Maria Gabriel.
Maria Gabriel, European Commissioner for Digital Economy and Digital Society:
Bulgaria is extremely well positioned as a regional leader, especially in areas such as women in information technology, where it is ranked number one in Europe. The cyber security issue will continue to be more than relevant, because cyber security is not just our personal data, cyber security is all what critical infrastructure is. We are finalizing this topic because we are proposing a new strong cyber-aggression - the ENISA agency, with more financial and human resources. In the current budget period we have € 500 million in the digitization strategy, € 100 million is available for digital innovation hubs and my ambition during the next budget period is to triple this budget.
