Bulgaria’s Prime Minister Boyko Borissov released the Deputy Minister of Education and Science, prof. Nikolai Denkov, from the post, following Denkov’s request to quit, the government’s press office said on 5th of April. As motives for stepping down, prof. Denkov pointed the major differences with the priorities and the style of work of the Minister of Education, Meglena Kuneva and part of her team.
Deputy Minister Denkov was part of the Ministry of Education’s team in three consecutive cabinets, which ensured the continuity for implementation of changes in his area of responsibility: higher education and European structural funds.
The whole documentation for accreditation of the management authority of operational programme “Science and Education for Intelligent Growth” is ready and underwent successful review by the accreditation authority, he said. Important projects on the rating system of higher schools, teachers’ qualification and extracurricular activities are in a process of assessment or final stage of preparation, prof. Denkov added.
The projects which had already started and the ones being prepared to start in 2016 will support 446,750 pupils, 9,300 children in kinder gardens, 21,500 school and university teachers, 68,700 students and 750 young scientists and leading researchers, prof. Denkov explained.
In his request to the Prime Minister, he noted the support he received by and the good coordination with the two relevant deputy prime ministers in the area and the management of the Education and Science Committee at the National Assembly.
