Bulgaria’s Prime Minister Boyko Borissov and Macedonia’s President Gjeorge Ivanov agreed in a telephone conversation to conduct joint air and land training operations to ensure control and protection of the common border, the Bulgarian government said on 17th of March.
In the conversation with Ivanov, Borissov expressed concern about the situation in the Western Balkans in the context of the refugee crisis and said that after sending humanitarian assistance to Idomeni, Greece, the government was preparing to send assistance to the refugees in the Republic of Macedonia. PM Borissov reiterated that the effective control of the external borders of the European Union, not limited only to the Shengen zone borders, was paramount to curb migration.
