Bulgaria will provide humanitarian aid worth BGN 929 019 to Ukraine, Syria, Lebanon, Afghanistan, Iraq and Armenia in the form of voluntary contributions to international organisations, the caretaker government decided on November 6.
The funds will be directed to the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs, the UN Children's Fund, the International Committee of the Red Cross, the International Organisation for Migration, the UN High Commissioner for Refugees and the World Food Programme. The necessary funding will be provided from the budget of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs earmarked for development aid and humanitarian assistance.
The approved assistance is in line with the priorities set out in Bulgaria's Medium-Term Development Assistance and Humanitarian Aid Programme for the period 2020-2024. In accordance with the basic humanitarian principles, priority shall be given to humanitarian emergencies caused by armed conflicts and natural disasters.
Bulgaria will continue to be part of the efforts of the EU and the international community to address global humanitarian challenges, the Council of Ministers said.
