Plovdiv District Prosecutor's Office has indicted the citizen E.D., aged 50, for helping 8 foreign citizens, on September 9, to illegally cross through the country, the Prosecutor's office said.
Fast-track proceedings have been instituted for a crime under Art. 281, para. 2, item 1, item 5, para. 1 of the Criminal Code.
On September 9, on Trakia motorway, in the area of the village of Belozem, Plovdiv region, a police patrol of the regional unit of the Ministry of Interior in Plovdiv stopped for inspection a car driven by E.D. It was established that 8 foreign nationals were travelling in the car, all men, claiming to be Syrian citizens. Some of them were in the boot of the car and others in the back seat.
E,D. had to take them to Sofia, from where they wanted to go to Austria and Germany. It has been established that the foreigners entered Bulgaria from Turkey through the "green border".
The accused E.D. was detained for up to 72 hours by a decree of the supervising prosecutor from the District Prosecutor's Office in Plovdiv. Procedural and investigative actions are carried out under the fast-track proceedings.
