Bulgarian road hauliers blocked the traffic through the checkpoint “Kapitan Petko Voivoda” at Bulgaria’s border with Greece on 17th of February. The counter blockade is in response to the blockades by the Greek farmers.
The hauliers on the Bulgarian side blocked the traffic from 08:00 in the morning for all types of vehicles and allowed 10 minutes for the drivers who were at the territory of the checkpoint to leave.
From that time on, only vehicles of the Bulgarian border authorities are allowed through. For the time being, it is not clear for how long the blockade will go on.
The hauliers said that the problem with the continuing border blockades should be solved at high government level between Bulgaria and Greece.
Meanwhile, for a second day, Kulata – Promachon border checkpoint has been blocked for passage of vehicles from both sides. On the Bulgarian side, owners of road haulage companies do not allow passage of cars and buses into Greece. At the same time, the blockade of the protesting Greek farmers at Promachon continues.
On the morning of 17th of Februaty, cars are allowed through Ilinden – Exochi border crossing.
