At its regular weekly meeting on 2nd of March, Bulgaria’s Council of Ministers adopted the draft amendments to the Judiciary System Act, which will be proposed for voting in Parliament. The proposed changes result from the amendments made to the Constitution at the end of 2015.
Bulgaria’s Minister of Justice, Ekaterina Zaharieva, highlighted the key proposals of the draft: the split of the Supreme Judicial Council (SJC) into two colleges – one of prosecutors and one of judges; the decisions of SJC to be made on the basis of qualified majority, obligatory voting and direct election of SJC members.
