Bulgaria’s caretaker Prime Minister Stefan Yanev and the members of the Council of Ministers on September 15 presented a report on the activities of the caretaker government, which worked for a little over 4 months.

We tried to work according to the principles we declared at the beginning of our work, namely - transparency, accountability and professionalism, caretaker Prime Minister said.

According to him, these principles have been observed by the caretaker government and the results are visible to all Bulgarians.

"The caretaker government worked in an unprecedented political environment. The 45th and 46th Parliaments have failed to form a government, which means there will be a new caretaker cabinet," Yanev said.

He explained that the future tasks for the country will be performed in a similar spirit

"The government has shown transparency and accountability, pointed the shortcomings of existing practices in terms of spending public funds, and has shown how to improve the efficiency of spending public funds," he added.

According to him, some of the achievements of the caretaker cabinet are their agreement with the 46th Parliament on the updates of the State Budget, the budget of the Health Insurance Fund and that of the State Social Security.

.He added that the caretaker cabinet has continued work on the Recovery and Resilience Plan with an emphasis on improving its parameters and characteristics and with the idea of how to protect the interests of Bulgarian business and industry.

"We still have work to do on the plan, but we hope that it will be sent soon and that the first funds will be available by the end of the year," Yanev announced.

According to him, the caretaker cabinet has tried to take a structured approach to the work of the Council of Ministers' administration. Yanev also noted the changes in the National Security Protection Act, which they will put forward in the next parliament.

Yanev also commented on the work of the Ministry of Health. He said he was pleased with the work of the health ministry, which had prepared an understandable and adequate plan. He explained that all measures are sympathetic towards the business.

"I do not know who from the future government can answer this question. The decision for mandatory vaccination against Covid-19 is serious and difficult, on the edge of discrimination of rights and freedoms of citizens. We are all smart enough," he commented.

Caretaker Minister of Social Policy and Labour, Galab Donev, reported on the work of the caretaker cabinet in the social sector. He pointed out the adopted package of measures, providing higher income from pensions. as well as the recalculation of pensions with a coefficient of 1.35, which will begin in December.

"This will ensure that all pensions will be increased. The minimum pension will be BGN 370," he said.

Donev said the country had reached record low unemployment rate of 4.28%, as well as the New Employment Strategy, which was adopted by the cabinet. He noted that the 60/40 measure, which will support Bulgarian employers and employees, will continue until the end of the year.

According to the caretaker Minister of Interior, Boyko Rashkov, the caretaker cabinet has created conditions for fair elections on July 11th.

"A very good organization was created, which allowed us to largely eliminate the fraudulent votes that had accompanied the elections in our country for decades," Rashkov said.

According to him, the Ministry of Interior has planned the necessary police operations to achieve the goal of fair elections.

Rashkov also commented on the recordings of police violence that took place during the anti-government protests in 2020.

"In this regard, we made efforts to carry out additional checks against all those involved and they are not only 4, but many more. We have informed the general public about the result of these checks, including the violence that was perpetrated against Bulgarian journalists," Boyko Rashkov explained.

According to him, the activity of the Ministry of Interior has had a good effect on Bulgarian citizens. He pointed out that 1,147 signals were received for violations of the election process - 56% compared to April 2021, and 777 signals relate to vote buying, which is double the number of signal during the April elections.

Tomorrow, President Rumen Radev will appoint a new caretaker cabinet to prepare and hold the second early parliamentary elections this year, as well as the presidential elections scheduled for the same date - November 14.

Earlier today, the President confirmed that he was ready with the composition of the next caretaker government. Stefan Yanev said he expects to again be caretaker PM.
