The first regular sitting of Bulgaria’s 52nd National Assembly has begun after 210 MPs registered their attendance in the plenary chamber on May 7.
The agenda includes a hearing with caretaker Finance Minister Georgi Klisurski on the current financial condition of the state.
Among the issues to be discussed are the availability of funds in state accounts, including the fiscal reserve, the government’s capacity to cover current and capital expenditure in the medium term, the size of the budget deficit, and the level of domestic and external debt.
MPs are also expected to examine the risk of delays in payments to municipalities — including the amount of funds currently owed both overall and by municipality — as well as potential delays in payments linked to the Recovery and Resilience Plan and their impact on the state’s ability to finance ongoing and capital spending.
The hearing was proposed by Petar Vitanov, chair of the parliamentary group of “Progressive Bulgaria”.
