First transplant this year – mom donates a kidney to her son

A 30-year-old man from Plovdiv received a chance for a better life. He is the first kidney transplant patient this year.

His mother is the donor. And the operation was performed by the team of Doctor Boril Petrov in “Lozenets” Hospital in Sofia.

The young man waited for the operation for several years. He had to go on haemodialysis three times a week. Preparations for the transplant started in the middle of last year.

The mother had to treat stomach problems before the operation. It was done at the end of last month. The woman has now been discharged. And her son will go home tomorrow.

The man told BNT that after the operation he started a new life without hemodialysis.
