Bulgaria will seek financial compensations from Brussels, if the European Commission stops the South Stream project, said Bulgaria’s Energy Minister, Dragomir Stoynev on Thursday, 17th April. He suggested that the implementation of the gas pipeline project was likely to be blocked if the European People’s Party won a majority in the next European Parliament.
Minister Stoynev highlighted that Bulgaria would do its best in order the work on the gas pipeline to go on uninterrupted and would use diplomatic moves as well as a joint platform of the European countries along the planned route of South Stream project.
Minister Stoynev remarked that blocking South Stream project after EU’s Nabucco gas project was cancelled, would leave the country without secure gas supplies until all the gas interconnections with the neighboring countries became operational.
In the final European Parliament plenary session on 17th April, the MEPs voted a resolution against the construction of South Stream gas pipeline and called for seeking other sources of gas supply for the European Union.
