The final results of the laboratory tests checking for diseases of Penka cow, which spent around two weeks in Serbia, are negative. This was announced by the press office of the Bulgarian Food Safety Agency (BFSA) on 11th of June. It is expected that the cow will be returned to its owner in the village of Mazarachevo at the end of the week.
The test protocols must be finished and a few more meetings between the Head of BFSA Dr. Damyan Iliev and his colleagues from Serbia on cross-border cooperation in the field of veterinary activities.
The story of the cow became popular after the animal wandered from her herd and spent 15 days in neighbouring Serbia and then went back to Bulgaria through the border. EU officials and veterinary authorities threatened to kill her, because of strict EU rules regarding transmition of diseases across EU countries.
The topic for the runaway cow got the attention even of the European Commission. For Penka stood numerous people, one of whom the legend of the British rockband "The Beatles" Paul McCartney.
