The risk of spreading of infectious diseases in the flood-affected Northeastern Bulgarian town of Mizia is low. However hygiene rules have to be strictly followed in order to prevent deterioration of the situation, said the caretaker Minister of Health, Miroslav Nenkov, who arrived on 8th of August in the town hit by the flooding disaster. The disinfection of the area will start as soon as the water is pumped out.
Some of the measures for control and prevention of communicable diseases include transporting animal carcasses to disposal places, cleaning up the mud that went through the septic system, because it may contain faecal matter, which can be harmful to people’s health.
The water in Mizia should not be used for cleaning and washing.
Volunteers are needed to help elderly people clean up their homes. They will also need to have rubber boots and gloves.
