Bulgaria is making efforts to be ready to adopt the euro no later than January 1, 2025. The preparations and progress of the country in this direction were discussed at the meetings of caretaker Finance Minister, Rositsa Velkova, with Eurogroup President Pascal Donahue and Commissioner Valdis Dombrovskis during the ECOFIN meeting on April 27-28, 2023, the Ministry of Finance said on May 4.
In connection with speculations in the media related to the processes of the country's accession to the euro zone, the Ministry of Finance categorically states that the topic of postponing the introduction of the euro in Bulgaria after 1 January 2025 was not raised at these meetings, the finance ministry said.
Euro area membership is a priority for our country. The country continues to work actively on preparations for the adoption of the single European currency, both in the technical and legislative part.
The Ministry of Finance considers it unacceptable to disseminate fake news and contradictory messages in the media, especially in those with a good reputation in the public domain.
Any information on official meetings of the Minister of Finance is provided in a timely manner by the press office of the institution through official channels, the Ministry of Finance reminds.
