The risk of failure in the spillway of Rogozen dam (North-west Bulgaria) prompted a preventive evacuation of 8 residents from the village of Barzina. People, including children, have been accomodated in the homes of their relatives until the risk of flooding is over, said the mayor of the village Tihomir Trifonov on 8th of March. In the neighbouring village of Botevo, 11 people are in readiness to be moved.
The dam near Rogozen is 100% full and flows over the spillway. Civil Protection Teams and representatives of Vratsa District Administration are on site. Inert materials are thrown into the spillway to reduce the flow of water.
Siphons were installed in order to increase the drainage. However, the risk has not yet passed, so the evacuation of people has been necessary as a preventive measure, the mayor of the municipality of Hairedin, Todor Aleksiev, explained.
