Road construction workers protested outside the building of Parliament in Sofia and blocked traffic at 8:00 a.m. in the morning on September 10.
The whole “Tsar Osvoboditel” Boulevard was temporarily closed to traffic. The protesting drivers of heavy duty road construction machines and excavators went on a protest march from the Parliament to the Council of Ministers.
The protest took place peacefully and ended at exactly 12 o'clock.
The protesters said that there was no political context and wanted to get their money for what they had done, as they had not been paid for 4 months.
The caretaker minister of regional development, Violeta Komitova, said that the main problem is that this year the budget for repair and maintenance of roads in the country is 382 million BGN, and procurements for over a billion have been awarded.
I want to know which companies are protesting. I can't answer any workers. If I find out the names of the companies, I will publish information whether they have received money from the Ministry of Regional Development and Public Works, explained caretaker Minister Komitova.
Next week, Minister Komitova will meet with the protesting workers.
They said that if their problem is not solved, they will come to Sofia again, but this time with the heavy duty equipment and the machines they work with.
