Snow causes traffic jams and driving difficulties in Sofia

The snow caused kilometres-long traffic jams and driving difficulties in Sofia on November 12. The Sofia Inspectorate said that as of 8.00 a.m., the processing of roads continues. 159 snow ploughing machines were on standby. Streets and boulevards used by public transport, main streets in the districts and part of the inner streets are being treated against icing.

Anti-icing and snow removal treatments have been carried out in the districts of Sredets, Krasno Selo, Ilinden, Vitosha, Ovcha Kupel, Vrabnitsa, Lyulin, Novi Iskar, Pancharevo and Bankya. The main boulevards in Sofia - Bulgaria Boulevard, Tsarigradsko Shose, the Southern Arc of the Ring Road - have been treated.

BNT viewers reported that the road conditions between Sofia and Pernik are difficult, the Municipality of Pernik assured that all roads in the city are well cleaned, but most of the commuters have not yet changed the summer tires with winter ones, which makes traffic difficult. The deadline expires on November 15, by then they must be changed.

The Road Infrastructure Agency said that all roads on the republican road network have been ploughed, are being treated against icing and they will do their best to make traffic easy.
