The Prosecutor General, Sotir Tsatsarov said that requests for lifting of the immunities of more MPs were being considered in relation to the incident at Varna Airport.
He firmly rejected Volen Siderov’s allegations that the investigation of the Prosecutor’s office against him resulted from political pressure.
The incident in which the leader of the nationalist party “Ataka” and other MPs from the party got involved took place on Monday. Border policemen, uniformed policemen from Varna and security officers from the airport were present at the time and place of the incident. They were at work, strictly performing their duties, with the due respect to the MPs, but did not receive the same attitude. Sotir Tsatsarov added that enquiries are made to determine who hit Dimitar Bahnev, the second person who suffered injuries. The man was hit and kicked many times.
The Prosecutor General confirmed there was no provocation on behalf of passengers. He also commented that Members of Parliament were members of the public and should treat policemen with the relevant respect. “If anyone in this country believes he or she can hit a uniformed policeman and eloquently disregard it as being a politically motivated accusation, is seriously mistaken.”
