Taxi drivers across the country are on protest alert. They are unhappy with the drastic increase in the in the price of the mandatory third party liability insurance. The industry believes the increase is tenfold and not justified. Therefore, they call on the state and the competent institutions to intervene because their business is threatened.
"Insurers are raising prices by 300 to 1000%. All at the same time and this makes us think that there is a cartel," Snezhana Nikova, chairwoman of the Association of Taxi Drivers in Burgas, told BNT on November 7.
Insurance will cost us from 860 to 3000 BGN. So far we have been paying from 260 to 300, complained the industry. We have no explanation from the insurance companies. We have no information why is this drastic increase, they complained.
"As much as we don't want to raise the rates we will probably have to," said Snezhana Nikova.
On 20 November in Burgas they will express their discontent in a protest on the road.
