A major event is taking place tonight – the pre-premiere screening at Hall 1 of the National Palace of Culture (NDK) of the sixth season of Undercover series. Bulgarian National Television (BNT) Director General Milena Milotinova thanked the public service broadcaster’s loyal viewers and fans of the series for their swift response: all tickets were sold out at the box office in just a day and a half – less than two days – meaning there was no need to put tickets for the 5 October screening on sale online. The creators of the new season also appeared on The Day Begins morning programme on October 5.

“That is why the BNT team arranged a second date – 6 October – for which tickets are still available. So fans who would like to see the sixth season before its official premiere can go and buy tickets at the NDK box office, where only a few remain, while more are available online,” Milotinova explained.

From 10 October, which is also the premiere date of Undercover season 6, BNT has dedicated Saturday evenings to Bulgarian television series.

From this week until Christmas, BNT is dedicating Saturday evenings to a “Night of Bulgarian Series”. From 9pm, BNT will once again screen a favourite among Bulgarian viewers, All About My Son, starring Dimitar Rachkov, ahead of Undercover. The new season of Undercover will then be broadcast at 10pm every Saturday from 10 October until Christmas.

Viktor Bozhinov, director: “The problem with every new season is always the previous ones, because the responsibility towards the creative and production teams is, of course, to build on what came before. We have the chance to dig up the bones of Jaro and Kosama and bring them back to the screen.”

Dimitar Mitovski, creative producer and screenwriter of Undercover: “After a 10-year break, the big return of Undercover is coming. To be honest, this may be the most eagerly anticipated premiere in Bulgaria of all time. People have been waiting for it for almost 10 years. And this morning I started wondering why that is. I came to the conclusion that it is because 'Undercover' always tells the truth. The bad guy is shown as bad, the good guy is shown as good. There is no populism. Everything said in Undercover is the pure truth. And that is why the fans believe in it, why they watch it and why they like it.”

Magarditch Halvadzhiyan, executive producer of Undercover: “Before I became a producer, I was first and foremost a director. And I always have this battle going on in my head, because the director always wants everything to make it as good as possible, while the producer pulls the reins back to maintain some financial control over the whole thing, because you can't see where it ends. We have always – even when we have had creative disagreements – found a compromise. Because we all understand that you need enough experience to know when what the director wants is simply a request, and whether it will add value to the production. If it does add value, then there is no problem. But if it is something we are not sure we need all that much, and is simply a good idea in the director's head, then things are reined in. But these battles are normal between a producer and a director, and they happen all the time. What is extremely important to me, however, is always just one thing – what the viewer will see on screen afterwards and whether it will work.”

Halvadzhiyan admitted that he had been a big fan of Undercover before becoming its producer, having followed its first five seasons, and that he had now joined the project with great enthusiasm, particularly because of the team involved. He said he was satisfied with everything they had achieved in almost 100 days.

Dimitar Mitovski revealed that the new season had turned out to be very different:

“Given that 10 years have passed, it really is time to show things in a slightly different way. Everyone on the team has grown and developed further. Everyone threw themselves into creating this new sixth season with great enthusiasm. There was a lot of positive energy and things turned out very well. And after all, 10 years later, you can see that around the world, cinema has almost entirely shifted to television and streaming platforms.”

Milena Milotinova, BNT Director General: “Undercover is a fictional account of the most painful part of Bulgaria's transition. And that is what viewers will see in the sixth season. BNT is the country's biggest producer of television films and series, and it will continue to be so in the years to come,” Milotinova said.

She paid well-deserved tribute to the previous BNT management teams under whom the project began—Vera Ankova and Sevda Shishmanova, under whose leadership the entire project launched from its first season onward, as well as to the entire previous BNT Board of Directors, under whose leadership production of the sixth season began, and stated that she had invited them to tonight’s preview screening at the National Palace of Culture.

She also paid tribute to the previous BNT management teams under which the project was launched – including Vyara Ankova and Sevda Shishmanova, under whose leadership the entire project launched from its first season onward – as well as the previous BNT Management Board, under which production of the sixth season began. She said she had invited them to tonight's pre-premiere screening at the National Palace of Culture.
