Blagoevgrad District Prosecutor's Office provided further details about last night’s double murder in the city.
The bodies of a 60-year-old man and a 49-year-old woman were found in an apartment in a block of flats in Alen Mak neighbourhood.
Pre-trial proceedings have been opened and, on the basis of the evidence gathered so far, the supervising prosecutor has established that their 23-year-old son committed the murders and then set fire to the apartment to destroy any evidence of the crime.
If found guilty, the law provides for a sentence of 15 to 20 years of imprisonment, life imprisonment or life imprisonment without parole.
At the moment, the perpetrator has been detained for 72 hours and a request for a remand is to be submitted.
The murder weapon is thought to have been a tool for removal of nails from wood, the handle of which was burnt in the fire.
The alleged offender exercised his right of silence.
