German investments in Bulgaria for 2014 have declined by 338 million euro. Corruption, judicial system and political instability appear to be the issues for the foreign investors in Bulgaria.
These were among the topics discussed at a 17th of February meeting between representatives of French and German business in Bulgaria and the Bulgarian Minister of the Economy, Bozhidar Lukarski.
The foreign investors raised their main concerns including the double taxation for French and German citizens, who live in their countries and in Bulgaria. Frequent changes in legislation are also among the deterrents for traditionally strong German and French investors.
Bulgaria's unfavorable image as an investment destination is one of the reasons for the outflow of German investors in 2014. Despite that, a boost in the interest of German investors in Bulgaria is expected next year.
Bulgaria’s Ministry of the Economy say they are open to proposals on amendments to the Commercial law and the law on public-private partnership.
