The online stage of Bulgaria’s 2021 census has been extended to September 30, thr spokeperson of the Council of Ministers, anton Kutel told journalists on September 17.
The deadline for online filling of the forms was initially scheduled to finish on September 17.
On Friday, the Committee for Digitalization and Information Technologies heard the chairman of the National Statistics Institute, Sergei Tsvetarski. He provided the MPs with information about the course of the online phase of the census, the hacker attacks and the problems with the access to the census website, which started in the first days. Tsvetarski assured that there was no leak of personal data or data of any other nature.
Extending the term of the online census would provide an opportunity for more people to fill in the forms electronically, which is of key importance during the Covid-19 situation.
Enumerators will start visiting households on September 18 until October 3, from 8.00 am to 8.00 pm, including on weekends. Their task is to count all residential buildings, unoccupied dwellings and to count the members of households that have not filled the forms online or do not intend to do so electronically by 30 September. Enumerators will have the unique code generated by the system for those who completed the census online.
The online phase of the census will last until September 30. The extension does not change the schedules of the enumerators’ visits. They will comply with all anti-epidemic measures.
