On Friday 23rd May, the motion of no confidence over the critical condition of the energy sector will be discussed in an extraordinary sitting in Parliament. The debate will take place on the last day of the European elections campaign. Boyko Borisov, the leader of the opposition party GERB, said he expected the sitting to be held earlier this week.
“The voting on the motion will take place after the European Elections”, Mihail Mikov, the Chairman of Parliament said for the BNT news programme ‘Around the World and At Home’.He added that it would depend on the MPs’ consciousness whether they would use the rostrum for pre-election purposes or not.
According to the rules, the vote on the motion should be held 24 hours after the end of the debate. So far, there has been no request for scheduling an extraordinary session for Monday or Tuesday, so most likely the vote on the motion will take place on Wednesday after 25th May. GERB’s leader expressed dissatisfaction as he expected the debate to be held Wednesday or Thursday this week at the latest and the voting to be on Friday 23rd.
The no-confidence vote was filed on 16th May by the opposition party GERB. It accuses the ruling government in lack of vision about the energy sector, intervention in the work of the State Energy and Water Regulatory Commission (SEWRC), enormous indebtedness and low liquidity between the participants in the energy sector, and failure to conduct the ‘South Stream’ project in accordance with EU rules.
