The border crossing has been shut down for passage of lorries to Bulgaria since 05:00 a.m. Ilinden checkpoint is also closed for lorries. Passage through the rest of the checkpoints along the Bulgaria-Greece border is normal.
Later on 24th of February, the Bulgarian road hauliers discussed the situation with the minister of transport, Ivailo Moskovski and the minister of foreign affairs, Daniel Mitov. After the meeting, the Bulgarian hauliers said that from Monday, 29th of February, they would stage a counter-blockade at all checkpoints along Bulgaria-Greece border, if the Greek farmers did not lift their blockade. They said that the counter-blockade would stop Greek agricultural products to cross the border and would go on until the crisis was solved, the Bulgarian hauliers explained and added they were ready to shut the border crossings even at the Easter holidays.
On 23rd of February, after the negotiations between the Greek Prime Minister Tsipras and the farmers ended without agreement, the farmers said that they would continue the protest and again blocked the passage of vehicles through Kulata – Promachon checkpoint. In response, the Bulgarian road hauliers organized a counter blockade, but lifted it late in the evening on 23rd of February.
