The Bulgarian beaches “Oasis”, “Dъunes”, “Sozopol – Harmanite”, “Pomorie – East”, “Sunny Beach – South”, Sunny Beach – North”, Sveti Vlas – central”, “Sveti Vlas – new beach”, “Sunny Day” and the yacht port “Marina Dinevi” were awarded the Blue Flag certificate.
The European Blue Flag Campaign was launched in 1987 as a partnership between the Foundation of Environment Education and the European Commission. The campaign now encompasses about 50 countries from Europe, North and South America, Asia, Africa and Oceania.
The beaches that met the stringent criteria to quality were praised for the efforts of the concessioners to offer tourist services in balance with the natural resources and the quality of the environmentally sound management, the Bulgarian movement “Blue Flag” explained. They said that it was the first time “Oasis” beach took part in the contest and certainly deserved it.
The Blue Flag programme aims at promoting sound environmental education. It seeks to raise awareness of people, to encourage them to be more concerned about nature and protect the environment.
The website of the programme gives information about all winning beaches and ports in the world. A mobile application (Blue Flag) has been developed to complement the information with navigation, enabling to easily find the winners of the Blue Flag award.
