A DRILLING SHIP FOR OIL AND GAS EXPLORATION OFF THE BLACK SEA COAST ARRIVED AT THE BULGARIAN PORT OF BOURGAS

The Noble Globetrotter II drilling vessel, which is to carry out explorations for oil and gas in the waters of the Black Sea, arrived at the port of the Bulgarian coastal city of Bourgas on 19th of April.

Because of its huge size, the vessel went through the Bosphorus disassembled in parts and the installation of the tower was completed at the pier in Bourgas for several days.

The company which won the tender for the concession for the block “Han Asparuh” presented the facility and the schedule of the drillings.

Preliminary estimates indicate that there are reserves of over 100 billion cubic meters of natural gas.

In three days, the platform will set out to the block “Han Asparuh” in order to start the deepwater exploration drill.

The preliminary seismic exploration shows that there are significant reserves of oil and gas at a depth of approximately 5,000 m.

The 189 meters long vessel is equipped with the latest generation facilities and devices for drilling. There is a helicopter landing on the vessel. Computer navigation systems will keep the ship in one place when out at sea.

The tower on the board enables the drillship to achieve a drilling depth of approximately 2,000 mettres and further 3,000 metres in rocks until it reaches a gas field.

The extraction of oil and gas in the Black Sea is a guarantee for diversification, energy security and independence, Bulgaria’s Prime Minister Boyko Borissov said at the presentation of the drilling ship at the port of Bourgas.

The block “Han Asparuh” is located near the city of Varna, at a distance of 65 sea miles off the seashore.
