After months of delay due to appeals, the contract for design and construction of the road toll system in Bulgaria was signed, BNT reporter Alexander Markov, said on 15th of January.
The Management Board of Road Infrastructure Agency, Eng. Doncho Atanasov and Michael Weber, representing the contractor, signed the agreement. The cost is BGN 149 million and the term of implementation is 19 months.
The investment will be at the expense of the contractor. The toll system for the republican roads will charge TIR lorries weighing 3.5 tons based on the distance they travelled. Passenger cars will be charged based on the time with the so-called electronic vignette. With the introduction of the toll system, BGN 500 million more revenue is expected for roads.
