Works of art by famous Bulgarian artists and sculptors become accessible to visually impaired people in the new exhibition hall “Touch the Gallery” in Square 500 in Bulgaria's capital Sofia. The exhibition invites blind and partially sighted people to touch and feel some of the paintings and sculptures by famous Bulgarian artists.
This will become possible thanks to the joint project by Graphia foundation and the Bulgarian National Gallery.
This is the first time such exhibition takes place in Bulgaria.
“Our goal is to make the visual arts accessible to blind people. The mission is to make it possible for people with partially or completely impaired sight in the country to experience the beauty of visual creativity, " said Alberto Staikov, founder and leader of Graphia foundation.
The exhibition will present four paintings and four sculptures by famous Bulgarian artists. The technology used special paper, which turns into relief after heat treatment. They will be accompanied by tactile maps and audio descriptions in Bulgarian and English.
The opening of the exhibition was on 13th of October. The organisers say their plan is to gradually develop the exhibition and to adapt more artworks.
