At least two years are needed to enable the concessionaire of the Bulgarina ski resort Bansko to develop the investment plan for a second ski lift and to hold the necessary public discussions. This emerged from a meeting of Bulgaria’s Minister of Environment and Water, Neno Dimov, with representatives of the concessionaire and the mayor of Bansko Georgi Ikonomov on 4th of January. The meeting was held at the initiative of the minister of environment.
At the meeting, the concessionaire of Bansko ski area presented only the concept plan and the procedures that are needed in order to implement it. The company plans to hire a designer to make an investment project, then prepare a motivated proposal to build a spatial development plan, followed by a procedure for assessing the need for ecological assessment and the actual assessment of the impact on the environment.
Mayor of Bansko Georgi Ikonomov said he supports the idea to ban cars in the mountain. He was firm that new hotels and guest houses would not be built near Bansko.
Today, both opponents and supporters to the construction of the second ski lift in Bansko will be staging protests.
