The ban on the movement of heavy goods vehicles at temperatures above 35 degrees Celsius will be revoked, the press office of Bulgaria’s Road Infrastructure Agency said on 7th of June. The heavy goods vehicles with a weight of above 20 tonnes will be allowed to move on the republican road network during the summer. Before revoking it, the ban did not allow lorries to move between 13:00 and 21:00 during the summer.
The agreement was reached at a meeting with representatives of the Union of Bulgarian Transport Workers, Union of international Haulers, the Association of Bulgarian Carriers after talks with the management of Road infrastructure Agency and Traffic Police.
The restriction on the movement of heavy goods vehicles was introduced because of increased traffic in the summer months in order to avoid traffic congestions, to enhance traffic safety and because of the risk of plastic deformations on the road asphalt pavements, the RIA press office reminded.
The ban on the movement of TIR lorries remains in place if there are more than two consecutive non-working days – the ban will apply for the last working day and the last non-working day. The heavy goods vehicles will be stopped on Sundays upon entry to the big cities and the sections with increased concentration of traffic accidents.
However, the ban will not be cancelled for all roads. Traffic Police will further specify the sections which remain banned for movement of TIR lorries, as a well as the time periods in which they will be obligatory stopped on non-working days.
