Four buses from just one district of Bursa in Turkey set off to Bulgaria on the morning of 24th of March. Hundreds of Bulgarian passport-holders living in Turkey will return to Bulgaria to vote and to see their relatives. Political emissaries organize trips, they have lists of names of people who must be put on the buses they told BNT. Fixed departure time, strict organization, text messages on their phones about which party to vote for – so that is how the days go in the city with most Bulgarian emigres before the early parliamentary elections in Bulgaria, scheduled for 26th of March.

Exceptionally strict organization among Bulgarian passport-holders was established in Bursa. Dozens of buses a day depart from the city of Bursa to Bulgaria. Seven are the places in Bursa, from where the buses set off - mainly big emigration neighborhoods – Kestel, Yildirim, Yenibalar, Gyurukle, Hurriyet. Most emigres travel to Bulgaria’s Kardzhali, Krumovgrad, Benkovski and villages in the region where they were born and where they will vote.

The bus trips are organized by a certain political force. There are political emissaries with lists, which include the names of people living in a neighborhood in Turkey.

BNT team was in Milet neighborhood this morning. Some 60 000 Bulgarian passport-holders live there.

Four bus departed from the neighborhood to Bulgaria this morning at 7:00 am. Most people said that the trip to Bulgaria was free-of-charge and that they use the opportunity to see their relatives and to vote.

They say they do not know who pays for the trips. Two men, who admitted to the BNT team that they were from a political party, were monitoring the emigres to ensure everyone got into the designated bus. Each emissary has lists of names and details of the emigres and makes sure the buses depart full.

Local and regional mayors and governors from the local authorities in Bursa also participate in the organization of the bus trips.

Bulgarian passport-holders showed BNT team text messages they received in the recent days telling them which political force to vote for.

Some 50,000 Bulgarian passport-holders in Bursa have the right to vote in Bulgaria’s elections. There are expectations that the buses will be able to deliver in Bulgaria between 10,000 and 21,000 people from Bursa, since the city has only 8 polling stations that are not enough for everyone who wants to vote.
