Flags in the UK are flown at half-mast. There are now banners all over London with a picture of Queen Elizabeth II. As a mark of respect, a number of sporting and recreational events have been canceled. Rail workers and postal workers will not strike. Today the Council of Succession will formally proclaim the new Sovereign - King Charles III. At 11. 00 local time, the bells will toll at iconic sites such as St Paul's Cathedral and Windsor Castle. An hour later at 12. 00 noon a tribute to Queen Elizabeth II will be paid with 96 torch salutes - one for each year of her life.
King Charles III is expected to record an address to the nation. A service and vigil is planned for the evening at St Paul's Cathedral. Queen Elizabeth II's funeral will be with state honors and will take place within two weeks of her death.
