Bulgaria’s Chief of Defence Admiral Emil Eftimov will pay a working visit tomorrow, August 13, to the Allied Command for NATO Operations in Mons, Kingdom of Belgium. This is the first such visit by a Bulgarian Chief of Defence to the Alliance's strategic command in Europe.

Admiral Eftimov will be greeted with an official ceremony by the Supreme Allied Commander Europe (SACEUR), General Todd Walters.

The visit will discuss a wide range of issues related to the security of Bulgaria in the framework of collective defence, measures to strengthen the security of the Alliance with a focus on enhanced protection of the country's airspace (enhanced Air Policing), the adapted front presence in the Black Sea region, participation in the NATO mission in Afghanistan, as well as in the NATO Preparedness Initiative.

Issues on the Alliance's agenda related to enhancing Bulgaria's role in NATO's overall security and defence, as well as the more effective use of joint allied training facilities, will also be discussed.
