Bulgaria’s ombudsperson, Maya Manolova, proposes changes to the legislation to address issues related to employers who delay or do not pay wages to workers. Because of frequent complaints by workers, who were not paid their wages, Manolova proposes amendments to 4 laws.
One of them suggests employers who delay payments to workers, to be obliged to pay them within 3 months. In the event the company goes insolvent, the labour inspection agency will have the right to monitor if insolvent companies pay the amounts they owe to the employees. Another change proposes that employers who owe payments to workers to not have the right to transfer or sell the company.
The ombusdsperson said she was also drafting a complaint to the Constitutional Court against an option according to which companies in financial difficulties pay 60% of the wage.
