bulgaria’s parliament rejects confidence vote against government

Bulgaria’s Parliament on 25th of January rejected the vote of no-confidence against the government of Boyko Borissov. The vote was based on failure of the anti-corruption policy. A total of 234 MPs voted. 103 voted "for", 131 voted ”against”. No one abstained. "The vote was unsuccessful," the Speaker of Parliament Tsveta Karayancheva said.

There were no surprises during the voting, BNT reporter Nadezhda Vassileva said. As expected, government was supported by MPs from the partners in the ruling coalition GERB and United Patriots, by Volya party and an independent MP. MPs from the opposition Bulgarian Socialist Party (BSP) and the Movement for Rights and Freedoms (MRF) voted in favours of the no-confidence motion.

According to GERB, the vote of no-confidence has shown that there is no alternative to the government, but the opposition says it made sense because it presented the government's failure to deal with corruption.
