Bulgaria extends state of epidemic emergency until end of November

Bulgaria's government on Wednesday, September 23, adopted a decision to extend the state of epidemic emergency introduced over the spread of COVID-19 pandemic by two months until the end of November.

According to the European Center for Disease Prevention and Control, by September 19, 30,540,446 confirmed cases of COVID-19 were registered worldwide, of which 952,724 died. Of these, 2,808,711 cases or 9.2% were in the European Union / European Economic Area and the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, with a total death toll of 185,945.

By September 19, 2020, 18,733 patients and 753 Covid- 19 associated deaths have been reported in Bulgaria. The unfavourable development of the epidemic situation in the country continues, due to high mortality from infections caused by the new coronavirus, against the background of declining morbidity and maintaining the level of hospital treatment of patients with moderate and severe clinical symptoms.

The extension of the emergency epidemic situation and the implementation of anti-epidemic measures in the country aims to reduce the impact of COVID-19 on public health and the health system. This is especially important for the protection of the health and life of persons at increased risk of severe infectious disease - the elderly, people with chronic and oncological diseases and immunocompromised conditions, in conditions of simultaneous spread of seasonal influenza and COVID-19.
