In the presence of Bulgarian Prime Minister Boyko Borissov and Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, bilateral documents in the areas of transport, tourism and investment were signed on February 26. The agreements were reached within the framework of the fourth meeting of the High Level Cooperation Council held in Alexandroupolis between the governments of Bulgaria and Greece.

Bulgaria’s Minister of Transport, Information Technology and Communications, Rosen Zhelyazkov, and the Minister of Infrastructure and Transport of Greece, Kostas Karamanlis, have signed an Agreement on regulation of railway cross-border traffic. This will facilitate and speed up the crossing of the railway border crossings between the two countries by regulating the relevant procedures. With the entry into force of the agreement, European railway enetrprises will be granted a level playing field for cross-border services. The document is an important step towards the full integration of the Trans-European Transport Network (TEN-T).

Bulgaria’s Tourism Minister, Nikolina Angelkova, and her Greek counterpart, Harry Theoharis, signed a joint statement by the Ministers of Tourism of Greece and Bulgaria on the occasion of the Fourth High Level Cooperation Council. The two institutions will encourage efforts by the private sector in their countries - hotel associations, specialized chambers, national associations of tour operators and travel agents, start-ups, etc., to actively cooperate and implement joint initiatives, as well as to promote joint products for distant markets.

The countries will work to prepare and hold joint tourist events to mark the 140th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Bulgaria and Greece. The readiness for cooperation in the sub-sectors of tourism, which are of special interest - cultural, religious, congress, winter, sea, ecotourism, etc., with a focus on the principles of their sustainable development, was also declared. The document also states that each party will set up a working group to monitor the progress of the areas under the Joint Action Programme in the area of tourism for the period 2020-2022.

A Memorandum of Understanding was signed between the Bulgarian Investment Agency (BIA) and Enterprise Greece. The BAI and Enterprise Greece will cooperate with each other in the implementation of investment promotion activities, including assistance with the realisation of investor visits, exchange of invitations for business forums, trade and investment exhibitions and other promotional activities.

The Memorandum envisages that BIA and Enterprise Greece will be partners in the area of attracting investments and realisation of new investment projects, providing real opportunities for widening of business contacts between potential investors from Bulgaria and Greece. It aims at mutual assistance in applying for common European projects. The two countries are committed to sharing information related to investment opportunities and the development of new business partnerships. On the Bulgarian side, the document was signed by BIA Executive Director Stamen Yanev, and for Greece, by Enterprise Greece Gregory Dimitriadis.
