Bulgaria will produce about 160 million liters of wine from this year's harvest of grapes and will export about 60 million liters, Bulgaria’s Minister of Agriculture and Foods Desislava Taneva said on 26th of September in Plovdiv on the occasion of the opening of the grape harvesting campaign in the village of Ustina. The data is based on forecasts by the Executive Agency on Vine and Wine, BTA reports.
Minister Taneva said that the quality of the grape crop is good and the expected yields are expected to be approximately the same or slightly higher than last year’s. This is another industry that shows that Bulgaria can produce good quality grapes, to make good quality wine and export it to good markets.
In the recent years, Bulgaria has exported wine mainly to Russia, China and Great Britain. Every year the areas planted to grape vines increase. This year, we expect new 600 hectares of areas of grape vines. The number of wine producers also has gone up and 19 new wineries are in a process of construction. Currently, there are 263 wineries in comparison with last year, Taneva said, adding that despite the difficulties the Bulgarian farmer face, there is a growing trend.
